The House of J.C. Le Roux, South Africa’s oldest cellar dedicated entirely to sparkling wine and pioneers of the country’s first Pinot Noir Méthode Cap Classique, has become the first producer to win the prestigious Wine Magazine Amorim Cap Classique Challenge with a rosé – JC le Roux Pinot Noir Rosé 2006. The victory ahead of 47 other sparkling wine entrants in the 2008 Challenge, was the second accolade in just one week for this fresh and lively, salmon pink vintage Cap Classique which also scooped a gold medal at the 2008 Michelangelo International Wine Awards. The maiden Cap Classique of cellarmaster Elunda Basson, JC le Roux Pinot Noir Rosé 2006 displays a perfect balance between freshness and maturation showing a full-round palate with a lingering aftertaste of red berries and raisins. “I wanted the wine to be younger, fresher and a bit funkier, with a touch of red lifting the Pinot Noir character, especially on the nose,” said an elated Elunda, who tweaked the style of her pink bubbly somewhat from earlier vintages. This delightful bubbly has all the classic notes of a Pinot Noir with well-developed maturation characters complemented by subtle tones of biscuits, nuts and yellow raisins and an enchanting light salmon hue. After secondary bottle fermentation in the cool controlled climate of the cellar to create its sparkle and lively bead, the bubbly was left to mature on the lees for a further 19 months to develop its wonderful yeasty, biscuit character and elegant mousse. Taste this award winning bubbly and the full range of vintage Cap Classiques at The House of J.C. Le Roux situated in the heart of the picturesque Devon Valley near Stellenbosch. Completely transformed after a stylish make-over, The House of J.C. Le Roux boasts a chic new oyster bar, the elegant Scintilla lounge for private tastings, a funky wine shop and an uplifting tasting area.
